on the Occasion of

AYYAM-E-MADRAN

(DAYS OF MOTHERS)

marking the
Death Anniversary of Hazrat Ummul Baneen (S.A.)

Brethren in Iman & Islam!

Holy Quran asserts:

ولا
رطب ولا يابس إلا في كتاب مبين (سورة أنعام)
Naught of wet or dry but (it is noted) in a clear Book

Where Allah has mentioned about His worship at 14 places in holy Quran, there He
mentioned subservience to parents because these are the personalities who are
the most blessings-showerer on man after Allah and Prophet (SAW). From amongst
the parents, mother enjoys more honour because she plays a major role in brining
up the child as compared to father, and fragrance of kindness, love and care
comes out of her all the time. It is the mother who brings up the child after
going through a host of difficulties. Quran says:

ووصينا الإنسان بوالديه حملته أمه
وهناعلى وهن و فصاله في عامين ان اشكر لي ولوالديك, إلي المصير (سورة لقمان)

And We have enjoined upon man concerning his
parents – his mother beareth him in weakness upon weakness and he is not
weaned before he is two years of age – give thanks to Me and to your parents.
To Me shall all things return.

At another place, Allah says:

ووصينا الإنسان بوالديه إحساناً
حملته أمه كرهاً ووضعته كرهاً (سورة الأحقاف)
We have enjoined man to show kindness to his parents. With much pain
his mother bears him and with much pain she brings him into the world

Man is enjoined to give special respect to mother, that’s why holy
Prophet (SAW) said:

الجنة تحت
أقدام الأمهات (كنزالأعمال)
Paradise is under the feet of mothers

Human’s
character-building is the topmost objective of religion and Shariah, and on the
same bases, the same has been called the objective of Prophethood of Prophets.
Therefore, Quran says about holy Prophet (SAW):

And he
teaches them Book and wisdom and purifies them

This purifying souls is
that great objective under which the Holy Prophet (SAW) purified human life and
it is said:

لقد كان لكم في رسول الله أسوة حسنة
(سورة الأحزاب)
Verily in the messenger of Allah you have a good example

Every child takes birth on nature; his parents make him Jew, Christian or
Zoroastrian. Human character building is influenced much by parents. Mother
visibly influences the character of the child, while child is also inspired from
the mother and the father the most. That is why, Islam not only recommends
honour and dignity for mother but also declared implementation of mother’s
orders a must in some circumstances. if a Mustahibbi (desirable) order clashes
with the mother’s order, and if mother stops him from offering that order, it is
then becomes must for the offspring to honour mother’s order rather a situation
could arise where mother’s order has been considered even more respectable than
Allah’s commandment e.g. in case of jihad it is necessary for those who can wage
jihad, to participate in jihad but if mother stops him from doing so for any
reason, then one should even avoid the jihad.

Once a person came to the Holy Prophet (SAW) and said that I am a healthy
and fit man and desire to struggle for spreading Islam in the battlefield but my
mother does not want me to leave her and participate in war. The Holy Prophet
(SAW) said, go and keep with your mother, by God Who showered prophethood on me,
a night you would spend serving your mother and she would become happy to see
you, the reward of that would be more than one year in jihad (Al-Kaafi).

Respect of the mother and father and respecting their rights after the
right of Allah has been considered good. Allah Says:

Thank me and also thank your parents

At this
point Allah first mentioned His right, and then given commandment about the
rights of the mother and the father. A person came to the Holy Prophet (SAW) and
seeking guidance said, in whose favour I should do good (Naiki) so that I could
reap the benefit of my doing good. The Holy Prophet (SAW) replied, do good with
your mother. He asked and with who else. The Prophet (SAW) said, with your
father.

The rights that Islam has settled for mother are based on those
difficulties that a mother bears for the body and soul of her offspring. She
grows up a human being after bearing many difficulties and problems, and then
hands them over to society after transforming them into human beings. This is
what a common mother does, what would be the status of those mothers who gave
birth to Prophets, Messengers, Aulia and Righteous Persons. If those women are
human-builders then these holiest mothers are builders of Aulia, Scholars and
Leaders. Hazrat Ummul Baneen (S.A.) is from amongst such mothers the pious
seerah of whose is a beacon of light for women at large in every era.

Hazrat Ali ibne Abi Talib (A.S.) had asked his brother Hazrat Aqeel (who was an
expert of knowledge of genealogy and was fully acquainted with all families of
the Arab World) to find out for him a woman of brave and noble family of Arab
from whom a brave son would take birth. Aqeel said Fatima binte Hazam is the
bravest and valiant among entire Arab World.

The greatest poet of the World of Poets Labeed had said to Monarch No’man
about the same family that we are progeny of four brave sons of that mother who
belongs to that family which was used to kill opponents in the battle field and
used to respect guests much, we are supreme than the family of Abir bin Sa’sah.

After the Martyrdom of Hasnain’s mother, Hazrat Fatima binte Hazam who was
Najeeb-ut-Tarafain was married to Hazrat Ali ibne Abi Talib (A.S.) and achieved
the honour of growing up progeny of Zahra (S.A.), Hazrat Zainab (S.A.) and
Hazrat Kulsoom (S.A.) and played the role of a kind mother. Her devotion with
the Progeny of Fatima (S.A.) could be adjudged from her request to the
Maula-e-Kainaat Hazrat Ali (A.S.) to change her name saying that

عندما تناديني فاطمة, أرى الإنكسار
باديا على وجوه الحسن و الحسين و زينب, فإنهم يذكرون أمهم فاطمة الزهراء و
يتألمون

When you call me by the name of Fatima, the faces of
Hasnain (A.S.) and Zainab (S.A.) become gloomy as they remember their mother
Fatima Zahra (S.A.), and I do not want that Aulad-e-Fatima becomes upset even
a bit

Therefore, Maula-e-Kainaat (A.S.) suggested her name to be Ummul
Baneen and Allah blessed her with four sons who showed their utmost bravery in
Karbala. The biggest of them was Hazrat Abbas ibne Ali ibne Abi Talib (A.S.) who
enjoyed the status of becoming the Standard-bearer of the Hussaini Army, no one
matched his bravery, when he used to ride a horse, his feet touched the ground,
and about whom a saying of Quran-e-Natiq Hazrat Imam Jafar Sadiq (A.S.) goes
that our respected uncle Hazrat Abbas (A.S.) was a man of discernment and firm
belief who embraced martyrdom with Imam Hussain (A.S.).

Hazrat Ali (A.S.) had already told Ummul Baneen (S.A.) that she is the
great mother of four brave sons, for her patience it is enough that she is the
patron of Chiefs of Youths of Paradise i.e. Hasnain (A.S.), Hazrat Zainab (S.A.),
Hazrat Kulsoom (S.A.) and the mother of the Standard-bearer of the Hussaini Army
(A.S.) who decorated the history of Karbala with their great achievements.

When she was informed that her all four sons have been martyred in Karbala, she
said tell me first about Hussain (A.S.). Bashir told her the news of martyrdom
of her sons in order to this extend that he proclaimed the name of Abbas (A.S.)
and Ummul Baneen (S.A.) said my heart has torn into pieces; I had four sons and
I sacrificed all four for Hussain (A.S.). Bashir said:

حينما أخبرتها بمقتل الحسين و مصرعه
صرخت و نادت واحسيناه, واحبيب قلباه……

“When I
told the news of Imam Hussain (A.S.)’s martyrdom, voice of WA HUSSAINA WA
HABEEBA ascended…”

Hazrat Ummul Baneed (S.A.) desired that would
that her four sons were sacrificed and Hussain (A.S.) remained safe. Her love
for Hussain (A.S.) is a proof of her sincerity, firm belief and faith rather a
proof of her great love for holy Prophet (SAW) because Holy Prophet (SAW) had
said:

حسين مني و أنا من الحسين
Hussain is from me and me from Hussain

After the Karbala
tragedy, she organized first Majlis-e-Aza (Meeting to commemorate the martyrdom
of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S.)) in the holy city of Medina attended by all women
of Bani Hashim. She turned Jannatul Baqi into Aza Khana (a place to
commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S.) till she remained alive;
weeping and mourning for Hussain (A.S.) was her task; People of Medina were used
to gather and partook in the mourning. Once she said: “Call me not Ummul
Baneen (mother of sons) as this recalls me my lion-hearted sons, I was called
Ummul Baneen only because of them.”

She was expired on 13
Jamadi-us-Sani 64 A.H. but what is expiry? May be enmity of enemies of Ahle Bait
for the holy family of Ahle Bait Athar… her holy grave houses in Jannatul Baqi
(the cemetery of Baqi) which reconstruction, renovation, decoration and
restoration of dignity and honour is obligatory on the Islamic World.

Samuel Ishmaels says the most important complete model for a child’s
moral rearing is that if a person desires that his son possesses good qualities,
then it is necessary to present for him good examples; the model which remains
in front of child’s eyes is his mother; good mothers by bearing pains lay the
foundation-stones of god fortune of their seed, they adorn them and prepare them
for future.

Islam terms the most important reason of children’s erring ness parents’
erring ness. The Seal of Prophets Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) said:

Respect your offspring; teach them good manners so that you
may deserve Allah’s blessings (Makaram-e-Ikhlaq)

He said on another place:

If you do good rearing of your son and teach him good manners, it is
better than spending some part of your riches in the path of Allah (Makaram-e-Ikhlaq)

Holy Prophet (SAW) said: when a man dies, his Record of Deeds is closed
concerning three things namely 1- such good deeds which he did during his life
time and which are benefiting for people always, 2- He has left some such
knowledge beneficial for people, 3- He has left such virtuous son who offers
Dus-e-Kher for him (Rahay Takamul)

Right rearing of children guarantees benefiting from their rights being
parents, that’s why Islam advises progeny about their parents. Hazrat Imam Jafar
Sadiq (A.S.) says:

Doing good with parents is a proof of having knowledge of Allah because
no worship other than parents’ obedience pleases. (Misbah-ush-Shariah)

Secret of success of the most great personalities lays in their mothers who
fulfilled their great responsibilities and played vital role in bringing them up
and making them successful. On the same bases, the Death Anniversary of Hazrat
Ummul Baneen (S.A.) is being observed as “Ayyam-e-Madran” (Days of Mothers) for
this commemoration is a source of strengthening piety, and remembrance of
mothers is in fact respect and veneration of human dignity and religious values.

The Prophet of Islam (SAW) has ordered to narrate good qualities of the
departed souls particularly of Prophets and Righteous people. Therefore a saying
goes:

Do relate good traits of your deceased people

Ma’az narrates a saying of Holy Prophet (SAW) that commemorating prophets is
worship, commemorating virtuous people is expiation for sins and remembrance of
death is charity. Making arrangements for commemoration of these holy
personalities would increase reward and ranks.

Islam not only teaches respect of mother rather it
is a protector of women rights; it raises status of woman in the society from
every aspect; she has been given right of inheritance, she is not in back in
fulfilling duties, gates of education opens on her. Islam grants woman
elevation, her excellence became beauty of Quran upon which Suran Nisa and Surah
Maryam stand witness. By the command of the Creator of Earth and Heavens, woman
possesses that status that camel be sacrificed under her feet.

We,
on this pathetic occasion, vow to keep continue our struggle with honesty and
sincerity for promotion of Islam which bestows woman with loftiness and
excellence.
