Ashura observed with fervor; Muqaddesi demands to undo the anti-Azadari (mourning) SOPs issued by the previous government
Rawalpindi (July 6, 2025): Like in other parts of the world, the Day of Ashura (10th of Muharram) was observed on Sunday with traditional religious fervor, devotion, humbleness and respect across the country, including Azad Kashmir.

The day marks the supreme sacrifice of maternal grandson of Holy Prophet Hazrat Mohammad Peace be Upon Him, Hazrat Imam Hussain AS and 72 other martyrs in Karbala at the hands of Yazeedi forces, who had wanted him (Hussain) to express allegiance to the tyrant ruler to lend credibility to his illegitimate government.
The main Ashura procession of Rawalpindi passed through Imambargah Ashiq Hussain Teli Mohalla, Imambargah Hifazat Ali Shah and Imambargah Colonel Maqbool Hussain. It included the image of Zuljinah, Alam e Abbas, Taaziya, coffin and cradle of minor son of Imam Hussain Ali Asghar, among other relics.
On this occasion, the head of the Tehreek-e-Nifaaz Fiqha Jafariya Pakistan, Allama Agha Syed Hussain Muqaddasi, delivered a speech to the mourners at Committee Chowk and talked to the media as well. He emphasised today the meeting place of freedom fighters and source of inspiration all over the world is Karbala and the essence of Hussain ibn Ali (a.s.).
He argued that according to the Imam, martyrdom is honorable but going along with Yazeed is not acceptable to him. He added today, the source of guidance and energy for the forces fighting against the tyrant is the lesson of Karbala, as the lesson of confronting imperialism is Karbala and the courage is found in Hussainiyat.
TNFJ chief said that the whole world is paying homage to the divine son of the Prophet PBUH on the 10th of Muharram. “The Holy Prophet came to enjoin good deeds and forbid evil deeds, whereas when Yazeed asked for allegiance, Hussain said, “no one like me can pledge allegiance to someone like you. We are the Ahlul Bait of Prophethood. Angels descend to our homes,” he quoted a saying of the Imam.

He pointed out that according to the hadith, Yazeed was a hypocrite, who did not believe in religion, the Quran and revelation. In such a situation, he noted the Imam fought and he had declared that the aim of his struggle is to reform the Ummah of the Holy Prophet PBUH.
“I, Hussain, will make such a sacrifice that I will save the efforts of the prophets until the Day of Judgment,” he quoted the Imam. TNFJ chief said that there is a Hussaini spirit in Kashmir and Palestine, fighting the oppressors.
He demanded that the Punjab government should to undo the anti-Azadari (mourning) SOPs issued by the previous government, which are against fundamental rights. He said that they have a commitment not to let the mourning to be limited and will sacrifice everything to preserve it.
The Punjab government, he noted, has made good arrangements but certain SOPs are not correct and that the change of seasons cannot stop or affect mourning, the immortality of Imam Hussain in Karbala.

“Our beloved homeland, Pakistan, is the fruit of the joint efforts and sacrifices of all schools of thought, the constitution guarantees equal rights to all schools, discriminating against anyone is a violation of the constitution,” he contended.
He demanded that the incidents of disturbing the mourners and the elements causing disrepute to the administration should be investigated and those found guilty be punished. He also said that the government rules and regulations banning mourning in the federal government and especially in Punjab are an obstacle to exercising religious rights, obstacles should not be erected in the path of mourning.
TNFJ head insisted that the elements of banned parties should be expelled from peace committees while paying tributes to Shia-Sunni unity during the ten days of Muharram.
